Bird's Head Haggadah
Passover Haggadah for the entire family. Inspired by the original Bird's Head Haggadah of the Israel Museum collection.
This Haggadah brings the Passover story to life with colorful pop-ups and movable scenes adapted from the original 13th-century-manuscript.
The Ten Plagues, the Parting of the Sea, the making of the Matzah bread and more are beautifully depicted by the pop-up illustrations. Reading this Haggadah is a fun way to engage children and adults alike in the Passover story and the Seder meal from beginning to end.
Written in both Hebrew and English, it is printed on heavy-duty paper and encased inside a decorated cover.
Dimensions: 9 x 12 inches / 23 x 30 cm
The original manuscript is one of the oldest extant Haggadas in the world. Its name is derived from the human figures depicted in the Haggadah, who have birds’ heads with pronounced beaks. The practice of drawing bird and animal heads in place of human faces can be found in other medieval Jewish manuscripts. Yet to be fully explained; it may relate to a strict observance of the biblical prohibition against making graven images. All the adult males in the Haggadah wear the conical “Jewish hat” that was compulsory for Jews in Germany during the Middle Ages.
