Discovery of the Menorah Treasure at the Foot of the Temple Mount
By Eilat Mazar
For nearly thirty years Dr. Eilat Mazar is heading the Ophel excavations at the foot of the Temple Mount on behalf of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In April 2013, the seven-branched menorah treasure came to light in her excavations.
This is the story of that discovery.
It begins with the initial amazement of the excavation team members at this electrifying find and continues through the stages of the excavation, the scientific examination of the finds, the study of the symbols and the coins, the date of the treasure, the circumstances of its abandonment, and the archaeological and historical background. This book ends with a very brief personal story of Dr. Eilat Mazar's family, that for several generations has been intertwined with the menorah and the archaeologyof the Land of Israel.
