The shape of a six-pointed star is taken directly from the shape of the sheild he used on the battleground. King David wrote in the Third Psalm, “But you, Lord, are a shield around me,” (3:3). King David’s security on the battlefield actually came from God, not the physical shield he held. The Shield of David or Star of David is therefore a metaphor for God protection to His faithful.
