Yehiam
Yehiam
This video features an aerial view of the ruins of a crusader fortress, atop a prominent hill in the western Galilee, said to date from the 12th century. Nearby is the modern community of Kibbutz Yehiam. The kibbutz was founded in 1946 and the fortress is located inside the kibbutz’s grounds. The founders of the kibbutz originally lived inside the ancient structure using tents; all kibbutz life in the first years was handled in and around the fortress. During the War of Independence the founders were besieged behind the huge walls of the fortress. Several kibbutz members were killed defending the settlement. Today, the fortress is a national park where visitors can see their restored defensive positions, which tell their story.
