The Kinneret has an area of 168 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 43 meters. While it is called a “sea” in English, it is rather a fresh-water lake. It provides approximately 50% of the drinking water and 25% of all water for Israel. Therefore the Kinneret is of utmost importance to everyday life in Israel.
During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. Matthew 14:25
Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee, and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. John 6:1-2
